Intellectual Property Client Update – Designs Law

Categories: IP

This law changes the legal protection given to designers over their creations in a substantial manner. The new law differentiates between registered designs – protected for 25 years – and unregistered designs which are afforded protection for 3 years. This is in contrast to the current situation in which a registered design can be protected for a maximum period of up to 15 years, and there is no recognition of industrial design that was not registered under the Patents and Designs Ordinance.
