On May 24, 2016 the General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) was adopted in the European Union (“EU”). The GDPR is sweeping legislation which includes fundamental changes to EU law in respect of protection of personal data and replaces the EU Data Protection Directive 95/46/EC which previously governed the collection and use of personal data.
