Aikido acquires Root Security in USD70m deal
Belgian cybersecurity unicorn Aikido Security has acquired Israeli-founded cybersecurity company Root Security in a USD 70 million deal, expanding its software supply chain security capabilities with technology for automatically patching open-source vulnerabilities without requiring upgrades or migrations.
Root’s platform is designed to help developers remediate vulnerabilities in the versions of open-source software they are already running, supporting Aikido’s broader push to make secure open-source development easier for engineering teams. Following the acquisition, Aikido is expected to open a development center in Israel that will absorb Root’s employees and further expand the company’s local presence.
Clifford Chance represented Aikido on the transaction, with Epstein Rosenblum Maoz advising on the Israeli aspects of the deal. The ERM team was led by partners Jeremy Seeff, Ori Shelas Turkia, Yaniv Aronowich, and Tamar Dolev-Green, and associate Aviva Strauss.
