Technion and Tel Aviv University enter global top 30 AI rankings
Two Israeli universities have been ranked among the world’s top 30 institutions for artificial intelligence production capacity, according to a new global index published by the US-based research unit of public relations firm W5.
The Technion – Israel Institute of Technology ranked 25th worldwide, fourth in Europe, and first in Israel, while Tel Aviv University ranked 28th globally. The index evaluates universities based on their contribution to the AI ecosystem, including research output, industry impact, startup creation, computing infrastructure, and AI education.
The Technion ranked eighth globally for graduates who go on to found AI companies, with the report noting that, when adjusted for institutional size, its AI entrepreneurship output is comparable to Stanford University, which ranked first overall.
The ranking also pointed to Israel’s broader AI ecosystem, including close ties between universities, multinational technology companies, and the IDF’s elite Unit 8200 intelligence unit. US universities dominated the overall ranking, with Stanford, MIT, and Carnegie Mellon taking the top three spots.
