Israel and Greece sign EUR3b multilayered air defense deal
Israel and Greece have signed a EUR 3 billion defense agreement under which Israel will build a multilayered air defense system for Greece.
The agreement formally launches the implementation phase of Greece’s planned “Achilles’ Shield” air and missile defense network, one of the largest defense projects ever undertaken between the two countries. The project is expected to take approximately 35 months to complete.
The system is expected to integrate Greece’s existing defense capabilities with advanced Israeli platforms, including Spyder, Barak MX, and David’s Sling, alongside Patriot batteries and other systems. The goal is to create a single network in which radars, sensors, command-and-control systems, and interceptors can communicate with one another and respond to different types of aerial threats.
A separate EUR 26 million supplementary agreement will provide Greece with Drone Dome systems designed to detect and counter unmanned aerial threats. Around 12 Greek companies are also expected to participate in the broader project, with local industrial involvement valued at more than EUR 700 million.
The deal further strengthens defense cooperation between Israel and Greece, while giving Athens a modern integrated network against drones, cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and other aerial threats.
