Elbit to establish first European laser warning systems center in Sweden
Elbit Systems plans to establish its first European production and maintenance center for laser warning systems in Sweden, further expanding the Israeli defense company’s industrial footprint on the continent.
The new facility is expected to become operational in 2027 and will handle integration, assembly, maintenance, and long-term support for systems supplied to European customers. Elbit has not disclosed the investment required, production capacity, or expected headcount for the center.
The site will focus on systems designed to detect and locate laser threats and alert military crews, helping protect aircraft, vehicles, and other platforms from laser targeting and illumination. Elbit said the next generation of systems is designed to integrate with existing command-and-control infrastructure while reducing the number of components and platform modifications required.
Sweden has become an increasingly important base for Elbit’s European operations. Elbit Systems Sweden, established in 2020, now employs more than 100 people across four locations. The planned center follows other moves to deepen local production in Europe, including work with Diehl Defence on potential SkyStriker manufacturing in Germany and a drone assembly venture in Serbia.
