Doing

Business in

Australia

Introduction

Australia is situated in one of the world’s fastest-growing and dynamic economic

regions, the Asia Pacific. Australia boasts a highly-skilled labor force and culture of

innovation, with over 40% of Australia’s workforce holding qualifications beyond

secondary education. Australia has a population of 24 million, making it an important

consumer market for multinationals. In particular, the concentrated population in

capital cities on Australia's east coast make it an attractive market for multinational

companies to efficiently build scale and prominence.

Australia is also used as a gateway and management hub for New Zealand (population

4.65 million) and South East Asia given the long trading history between the regions,

Australia's cultural and multilingual diversity and time zone capability.

Australia's strength in the mining and resources sector is well known as it is one of

the world's largest exporters of minerals and raw materials. Australia also has robust

banking, real estate, agriculture, tourism and services industries. Recently, Australia

has experienced a shift in allocation of capital away from mining to alternative asset

classes including technology. Australia is viewed as a particularly attractive source

of capital from public and private markets, having the world's third largest pool of

investable funds.

Israel - Australia Business Relationship & Opportunities

Australia and Israel already share close business ties. Australia currently imports

approximately A$833 million from Israel, largely through Australian companies

importing the IT services and intellectual property of Israeli companies. Further, the

level of foreign investment from Israel in Australia has tripled over the last three years.

In September 2015, the Australian Government announced its intention to begin

negotiations on a double taxation agreement with Israel. Such an agreement will serve

to further strengthen the economic ties between the countries and will reduce the

withholding tax rates on royalties paid back to Israel.

Significantly, Australia is a gateway to global capital, with 45% held by international

investors and has a long history of funding and listing early stage companies on its

national stock exchange, the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX).
