Greece approves USD4b Israeli air defense procurement
Greece’s National Security Council has approved a historic procurement of a multi-layered Israeli air defense system worth approximately USD 4 billion.
The system will form part of Greece’s “Achilles Shield,” a broader defense modernization program intended to strengthen the country’s air, missile, and drone defense capabilities. The approval follows months of talks with Israel and marks one of the largest Israeli defense export transactions to date.
The procurement is expected to include Israeli air defense technologies designed to address a range of aerial threats, as Greece seeks to upgrade its military capabilities amid changing regional security needs. The deal also reflects the deepening defense relationship between Israel and Greece, which have expanded cooperation in training, joint exercises, and defense technology in recent years.
