Haifa Port positioned as IMEC gateway linking India, the Middle East, and Europe

Haifa Port is being positioned as a key link in the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor, as northern Israeli leaders work to turn the planned route into a major logistics and economic opportunity for the region.

The corridor, known as IMEC, is designed to connect India to Europe through the Gulf, Israel, and the Mediterranean. Supporters of the initiative say it could shorten freight times between Asia and Europe and make Haifa Port a strategic gateway for goods moving between the East and European markets.

The effort is being advanced by the Next Bay 53-City Alliance, an unprecedented coalition of local authorities stretching from Haifa to the Jordan border. The group is seeking to ensure that northern Israel benefits from the infrastructure, trade, logistics, and investment opportunities expected to emerge from the corridor.

Haifa’s role reflects the port’s strategic location in the eastern Mediterranean and Israel’s broader potential position as a land-and-sea bridge between the Gulf and Europe. The initiative also comes as regional governments and businesses look for more resilient trade routes amid disruption to traditional shipping lanes.

If advanced successfully, IMEC could strengthen Haifa Bay’s position as a regional logistics hub while supporting broader economic development across northern Israel.
