Israel driving bioconvergence sector
Rather than treating biotech as a standalone sector, Israel is advancing a strategy bringing together multiple disciplines to drive innovation in areas such as AI-enabled drug discovery, tissue engineering, bio-sensing technologies and cultivated food systems.
The approach reflects a broader attempt to position Israel at the forefront of next-generation life sciences, in much the same way it previously built global leadership in cybersecurity and digital technologies.
With state backing, the ecosystem already includes close to 200 companies operating in this space, alongside structured investment in research, infrastructure and talent development.
The objective is to move discoveries more efficiently from academic research into commercial applications and, ultimately, global markets. By doing so, Israel aims to create a high-value export sector built on deep scientific integration rather than traditional biotech alone.
